Courage and a Mask!

Courage and a Mask!

We are living in a time that is calling for people to have great courage. All of our front-line workers have that courage. They are going out every day and facing the Covid-19 head on. They are at such great risk.

It takes a great deal of courage to do what they are doing. Some do it without thinking about the high risk to self that they are making. They are focused on the job they have to do and getting it done. As I see it, they must have this inner drive to serve that is higher in their mind than the risk of Covid-19. I know for some that inner drive is also the actual real human need for that paycheck to keep coming in. What ever the drive, it is higher for them than the risk factor.

To me that is showing great courage. My hat is off to all of them. They have something I do not have. Before I was faced with making this choice, I thought I was a woman of courage, now I question my courage as I am unable to find the driving force for myself to take the risk and return to work outside my home in a high risk environment.

I did try for one week. I found the public is unwilling to help me lower my risk by wearing their masks. Yes, some do wear the masks. But there is a large number that refuse to help do their part to lower the spread. It is like a slap in the face, when you encounter those without masks. It is like they have no idea of the danger they are putting you in.

If we want to reopen – we must all wear our mask until we have a vaccine to kill the virus.

There will come a day when I will have to muster up that courage and find that drive to return to work outside my home. Due to the fact that I am a high-risk person, I am trying to make that choice be in a more sheltered environment by looking for another job that is not working with the public that refuses to wear masks and help me lower my risk.

This week has been full of lots of soul searching and choice making. The bottom line is I have a greater respect for all of our front live workers and will continue to help them by wearing my mask and distancing when possible. I ask you my reader PLEASE wear your mask when you go out in public. Do your part to slow the spread. Covid-19 is real, and it is deadly!
